Scientist, writer, perpetual student

An immunologist by training, I studied biology and Spanish at Colorado College and earned a PhD in Pathobiology at the University of Washington and Fred Hutch, where I researched sexually transmitted infections and worked as a science writer. I’m especially interested in immunology, infectious disease, global health, and scientific communication. I’m currently a regulatory medical writer in Seattle biotech, after a decade-long career in immunology research.

In another life, I’d have been a linguist: I’m fascinated by words and language, and am fluent in Spanish and conversational (but improving) in Italian. I read fiction obsessively and write about what keeps me up at night.

Although my official schooling is finished (for now), I am a student by nature and continuously learning something new, including languages, literature, handmade crafts, and music.

I’m fanatical about (bubble) tea, rescue animals, literature, fiber arts, and nature. Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, I have followed the mountains to live in Colorado, Argentina, and the Pacific Northwest to pursue trail running, ski touring, mountaineering, and biking.

My best friend is a beautiful red retired racing greyhound named Javier.
